+## How It Works
+
+1. **Version Detection**: Scans for Maya installation and detects version
+2. **Signature Matching**: Finds specific byte patterns in the library
+3. **Binary Patching**: Replaces bytes with NOPs or return instructions
+4. **Backup**: Creates `.backup` file before modifying
+
+## Updating for New Versions
+
+1. Run detection: `python3 updater/detect_maya.py`
+2. Analyze the new library with a hex editor or `objdump`
+3. Add new signatures to `config/patches.json`
+4. Commit and push to update the database
+
+## Self-Update System
+
+The patch database can be updated from the remote repository:
